NO, it would not hold long if at all. Use a cold weld product like JB Weld. Clean the pipe well(with alcohol) and rough the surface with a file or sand paper.

maybe a temp patch depends how much psi you have 25psi or less it will hold a while replace as soon as possable
They make a thing to fix this kind of problem, I don't know what they call it. but it looks like a metal cuff or sleeve and clamps around the pipe holding a piece of rubber over the hole. They have them at hardware sttores, etc. Consider it a temporary repair, if the pipe is that rusted, it will probably soon have other holes.
Unlike J-B weld, and other patches, this can be put on while the line is under pressure; no draining of the line, or waiting for something to dry/set.
no... switch it out for copper buddy. save yourself the headache.
JB weld and the clamp that are previously mentioned are temporary fixes! Use the advice of replacing the water line. You can use copper (expensive) or what they call PEX, AquaPex, wirsbo..the fittings and tools for the Pex, etc are expensive but the pipe is extremely easy and quick to work with....either way you are definitely better off replacing the whole line rather than just patching the pipe now.
It's called a pipe clamp or pipe patch. You can pick them up at hardware or builder's supply stores. It looks like a sleeve that clamps around a pipe and they work very well. I work on an oil rig and we use them on our leaking pipes with several hundred pounds of pressure on them. It will be quite sufficient on your water line. J B weld or some other epoxy MIGHT work, but I wouln't count on it. You'd have to get the pipe perfectly clean of all rust and debris and have it completely dry and hope it would work. Remember that the pressure is on the inside of the pipe pushing out against the patch you put on it. All it needs is a tiny spot that isn't perfect and it'll break right on through.
