They make non slip pads

Go to the store and get a rug pad.it's kind of like a waffle weave looking piece of foam ...you put it under your rug and it won't move.
Put rebond carpet pad under it
Would be best to glue the area rug to it
You can buy a sort of rubberized mesh that is made particularly for this purpose. It actually works very well on smooth floors.
There is this stuff at K-mart that you can buy i forget the name of it but you cut it to fit in the places that you want peel off the adhesive stick it to the rug and then peel off the other side and it will stick to the floor but it will not hurt your wood floor that is what it is for you can find it in the furniture section near the rugs.
You can try Velcro strips just make sure that you test a piece out on your floor before hand to make sure that it wont tear any surface wood off when you go to remove it. You can find it in the sewing area at Walmarts.
Pier 1 makes this thing that you put under your rug to make it stay in place. I have them around my house. They are not very expensive and work great.
You can purchase a product at any Home Depot or probably even department store. Normally called No Slip Rug Pads.
They are a bit expensive, but it won't damage your rug or hardwood flooring.
get a rubbery lining used to lined the pantry or even the rubbery place-mat sold in dollar store. cut into big square and glue on the corner of your rug.. it should helps keep it in place.
Get double sided tape at walmart and tape the corners of the rug to the floor.they have heavy duty kind for rugs
Go to Home Depot, Walmart or Lowe's... any home improvement store. They make a pad that goes under the rug. It looks like a waffle (kind-of) usually white and thin. It goes under the rug and VIOLA' no more skids. Not too expensive and you can cut it to size!
They make and sell a rubberized mesh that works great. Use it and the rug does not slip. You will not needs small nails etc.

They arre very thin and unnoticable under rugs.
