Central Air - Problem?

Question:Hi ~
Just recently when trying to use our Central Air, it seems to be giving us problems...It did work a few weeks ago. Now, when turning on the air, the unit outside turns on, but no air blows inside the house (we also tried Heat, and that doesn't work either). We changed the filter, but still doesn't work.

What can be the problem? Do you think the coils need to be cleaned?

thanks!!

Answers:
if the outside unit came on and the inside unit didn't.if it had been off a while and then the inside unit would not come on the blower motor or fan relay is bad.try switching the thermostat fan settings from auto to on if it still will not run then blower motor is bad or blower motor relay is bad..also you couild let it set for a few hours then turn the fan setting to on and not turn your ac on this will let just the fan run.. if will run like this then your unit is freezing up and this is what is causing your problem...you would need to clean the A coil then and if it keeps freezing up you would need to have a service tech come and check the freon charge...

Is the furnace blower working at all? check to see, if not then that;s your answer.
If it is working, then maybe you let the dirt and dust build up on the furnace coil where no air can pass, and in that case it needs a good cleaning. There should be an access door to check the inner coil.
If the inside air runs for a while and then shuts down, it could be due to coil freeze up, and in that case it could be a problem with air flow not being enough, or low on freon.
the coil can be plugged. If the filters were really bad, it's likely.
The refrigerant charge can be low but if that's the case. you need a pro. Check the fan motor belt,if its loose, that could be a problem. I ould clean the coils, change the filters adjust the belt,(if installed) and make sure there are no obstructions by any vent. Anything else a pro will have to determine the problem. If your compressor is shot, plan on paying over $1000 for the job (at least here thats what you'll pay) If thats the case, i would consider a new unit. They are higher efficiency that what you have and will save money in the long run
