Well this could be a couple of things. Either the tap handle is not turning the tap, or there is a fault with the tap body. It all depends on the type of tap you have. If the tap handle turns and does not stop then the tap handle is at fault. As for the tap body, if you take the tap handle off you will see the spindle, and on most taps there is a little spring clip that sometimes pops off. To put it back on, turn the tap off and just replace the clip.
Has someone isolated the supply to the tap? Check for small isolation valve in pipe going to tap. The screwdriver slot should be in line with the pipe flow.
your valve stem is probably stripped and needs to be replaced.
Check to see if you have water in your storage tank, check to see if the gate valve off the top of the hot water cylinder is open. Thats a start.
Could be something has flushed down into the pipe from the header tank. (Found a mouse the other week !!) Carefully unscrew the top of the tap from the main tap body and see if water comes out. Could also be that the thread or splines have stripped. Still need to take the tap top off though. If you have hot water to the rest of the house then the problem is with that one tap, otherwise start at the header tank and work down. You might have to call a plumber in.
go to your plumber merchant and purchase a tap revival kit which in just the top section of your tap then remove the old tap tops, tap spindle and replace with your new ones
