I turned a light on last night and the bulb blew out - it's left a bit in the socket - how do i get that out?
Question:ie most of the bulb was shattered on the ground, there is a little left in the socket - i don't like electricity and am weary on how to get the remaining part out. Help
Answers:
Make sure you turn off the circuit breaker to that room!!!
Then, only after you are certain the electricity has been turned off at the circuit breaker box, cut a potato in half and take half the potato, stick it up into the leftover bulb in the socket, twist, and remove.
Use a potato. Cut it in half, turn the light off and push the potato over the remaining pieces of light bulb. And unscrew
Turn off the fuse to that room and make sure there is no power. Use a potato.. It works.
Seriously though do not get yourself electrocuted!
A lot of people will tell you to use a potato and all that crap. What I do is UNPLUG the light. Get some rubber handled needle nosed pliers. Put the pliers inside the bulb socket and spread them out until they are tight against both sides. Keeping them TIGHT, turn the socket left in the light just as you would taking out the light bulb. Make sure nothing is left in the socket after removing what you could and then put in a new lightbulb. Presto."Let there be Light." If it is a permanent light fixture.turn off the circuit breaker. If unsure which one turns that light off, turn off the main circuit breaker.
i'm wary of the wetness of the potato. i've used anold washcloth. when you're finished, toss the cloth
be on safe side just turn electric of competely @ the box and use a pair of pliers
If it is a table lamp, unplug it from the wall first. If it is a ceiling light turned on/off by a wall switch, you will need to flip the circuit breaker off. Carefully remove any broken glass still attached and then press a small ball (like a tennis ball) to the metal part of the bulb remaining in the socket and turn to remove it. I’ve also heard of using a potato. But it is VERY important to be sure there is no electricity still running in the socket before trying to get it out.
Good luck!
