How to clean the algae from my swimming pool, have already spent hundreds of $$ on chemicals, didn't work!

Question:Just bought this house and pool is old. Water was not too bad when first uncovered in May, but then had to wait to get new pump & that is when algae started to grow rapidly. Water tests ok, but still very green & have bought stuff from a pool place that they said would get rid of it (hundreds of $ spent) still has green as before!! Please help us!

Answers:
OK , no matter what type of filter you have it has to be cleaned first. if it is a de filter you will need to acid wash the grids, because if the pool is that green so is the pool filter. if it is a cartridge filter you will ave to take out the cartridges and acid wash those also , with muratic acid and water solution.put the cartridges in water , in a plastic trash can and add about 2 gallons of acid. do this on your driveway and use rubber gloves. because this will kill grass when you pour out the water.be careful of the fumes from the acid. if you have a sand filter you should raise the water in the pool as high as you can, then back wash as long as you can before the water drops below the skimmer. after all of this you need to use sodium dichlor to your water. in your case about 10lbs. and run the pump 24 hrs a day until it clears up. after it clears up and the algae is killed then you vacuum and brush the pool after the algae is killed. and then clean the filter again because it will be very dirty . you don't have to acid wash again just with a water hose this time. if it is a cartridge filter. i guess you do know about recharging a de filter after u back wash. if not just ask.

Super shocking should have worked. You didn't say how many gallons your pool had. Mine is 22,000 and I had that problem. I used 8lbs of shock and 2 gallons of algaecide and it cleared up. You might want to think about draining and re-filling. That might be cheaper in the long run than continuing to pour chemicals in it, depending on how much you pay for your water.
EMPTY HALF OF SWIMMING POOL REFILL THEN PUT CUPLE GALLON OF CLORINE AND CUPLE GALLON OF ALGAE EATERS IT WOULD WORK RUN VACUUM FOR AS LONG AS YOU NEED IT MAY BE 24 HOUR
I would stay with the chemicals. Make sure your filter is clean.
Add about 8lbs of shock and run the filter continuously till it clears up.
Sorry, but pool companies will sell you anything they can and other folks dont really know.Instead of guessing, go to http://appliancequickfix.com/ They have one, easy read page that tells the whole story.
