Fridge light on but nobody home!?
Question:I have a 348litre size Whirlpool fridge. It is about 10 years old. The problem is that it is not running. When you open the door the light comes on but the compressor isn't running.
Would this be a problem with the compressor or something else?
Somebody said something about a timer switch or something, but I'm not sure what to look for.
Would this be an expensive repair if it is the compressor?
Thanks, Jo
Answers:
If the compressor is not running there are a couple of things that could be wrong and inexpensive to fix.
First is thetheremostat, not telling the compressor to come on. This can be checked by jumping the two wires going to it.
Second is the defrost timer. this is located usually by the thermostat. there will be a small hole and in the hole look for a screw head with two dimples on it. take a flat bladed screwdriver and turn it clockwise if things start up its bad
Lastly if none of those work get a new fridge...too costly to repair.
If the fans are not running or the compressor, then the timer or the cold control is defective. Go to http://appliancequickfix.com/ and see exactly how the fridge works without guessing.
The compressor needs to be changed by a certified repair person, so it can get expensive. For an easy-to-follow explanation of what can be causing the problem, check http://www.apwagner.com/appliancerepairc...
They also have breakdowns by model number so you can find the part that is causing the problem.
