How do u install hard wired smoke detectors?

Question:

Answers:
Hard wired are the best you can get. Get interconnect type alarms so if one goes off they all go off. This is especially important in large or multi story houses. You will not hear an alarm in the basement if it is the only one going off.

For a garage install heat detectors because dust can cause false alarms with smoke detectors.

As far as installing them it is really quite simple you run a circuit from the your breaker box and put a box in each room. If you are going to interconnect the alarms use 14/3 wire. You use the third wire as the interconnect wire.

When you buy the alarms they will have a wiring diagram. If you are not comfortable working with electricity hire an electrician to do the wiring part.

You will expect to pay about $20-$50 per detector. You can even add strobes if you have people that are hard of hearing.

No matter what brand you buy remember to replace them every 10 years. Also make sure they are UL listed.

This is about as close to a commercial system as you can get without the complexity.

You know,----
Those are the worst to get.
Do research.

Anyway, Masterguard is the best to get.
They require no energy source.
Expensive.
Just buy one or two.
They'll try to sell you enough for the whole house at about a thousand bucks. That was our case anyway.
Just buy one or so for a few hundred.
That's all you'll need.
Take them with you when you sell or move out.
Will them to the kids when you die.
They are worth it.
They are worth the trust and well-being you'll get.

No, I'm not a Masterguard salesman. I've just seen alarms fail.
I've seen houses go up quick in fire.
Get the Masterguard.
Installation of hard wired smoke detectors is quite easy. You should buy at least 1 unit per floor. If you connect them in series then when 1 goes off, the others will be set off as well. If you are installing 2 detectors you will need: wire marretts, 14/2 NMS wire, 14/3 NMS wire, 2 octagon boxes, and 1- 15 Amp breaker. From your panel box, run your 14/2 to the first octagon box ( do not connect to breaker). Then you run your 14/3 to the second octagon box. Once you have the wire ran you can begin connecting the wires. Black to black, white to white, and the red wire goes to the (not to sure of color) I think it's blue. Also conect your ground wire from the 14/2, and 14/3 to the octagon box. When you are ready, shut the power off to the entire house to prevent electrical shock.Inside the panel there is a ground screw, connect ground, then the white wire to another line of connectors, usually on the bottom of the panel. And your black connects to the breaker. Ensure your connecions are secure and turn on the power. Test your detectors. These should be replace every 10 years.
