Dishwasher Problem?
Question:I have a dishwasher and a disposal that my contractor just installed. When we use the dishwasher there is a vent behind our sink that expels water. It vents A LOT of water (about two gallons or so) and our contractor says it's normal. But it spills all over our granite counter and forces us to create make shift barriers with sponges to ensure that the water actually goes in the sink. Is this normal or do we have a problem? Is there anything we can do to encourage our dishwasher to release 99% of the water through the disposal rather than into our sink? Thanks much!
Answers:
some idiot hooked it up wrong...it should VENT air through the sink and WATER through the disposal/water pipes.get someone in there now to re-do, before the detergent messes up your granite...
This is absolutely not normal, call a plumber!
It's normal to have a tiny bit of water girggling but not that much! Call your contractor and tell him to get his booty there asap. You paid too much money for his services to have to put up with these results that you could have gotten as a do-it-yourself.
Kathy A is correct. Should be able to switch the drain lines that are attached to the vent and it will work right.
Call that contractor & have him attach it to the correct way.
He/she didn't do it right. Or call someone else to fix it right.
It should be connected to the drain pipes under the sink.
Garbage disposals have a knock out plug. When you hook up a dishwasher to it, you have to take a long screwdriver and hammer and knock out the plug before you hook it up.
