Do you need to let the air out of a compressor when you are done?

Question:I have a compressor I use to fill my bike, I hook it up to outlet and it fills up. After I fill my bike am I supposed to let all the pressure out of it? and if so is there generally a way to do it other than holding in the little pin thingy in the little thingy where you get air out?

Answers:
No you do not have to let the air out of the tank every time you use it.It is a good ideal though that you drain it once every four or five uses to let the water out of the tank during the summer months when the humidity is higher as air contains more water during the summer months...I have an upright 80 gallon air tank that i have had for twenty years and i only drain it once a month during the summer and once every three months during winter.there should be a drain valve on the bottom of the tank.if there is not one there should be a pipe plug you can remove.drain down the air pressure then take the plug out and let the compressor run some this will force whatever water is in the tank out...turn compressor back off reinstall plug once all the pressure is gone and every thing will be fine until the next time it needs to be drained...

It is better for the seals if you let the air out every time.
If the compressor has a tank, then water can condense inside the tank and it will eventually rust it out. So it's a good idea to let the air out through the bottom of the tank to make sure you get all the water out.
No need to depressurize it.
