How do you tell if the sounding board is cracked on a piano?
Question:Is there somewhere inside of the cabinet to inspect for this crack? Do you have to have a professional tuner tell you if it is cracked? I have a piano that has been in storage for two years, exposed to very cold temps through the winters, and want to know if I can detect this crack. The piano does play.
Answers:
well, if your like a pro piano player type person.. i'd worry bout it, but if your a average person who knows how to play, and the piano seems ok to your standards, i wouldn't worry bout it too much
if it is an upright, you will have to raise the little door on the top and look. If it is a grand, you raise the top and look down, the sound board is on the bottom of grands. Humidity would be more of a factor than temperature, but temp can be a factor.
if its clacked visably you will se it. it could also be loose and that would make it sound broken. check those out and good luck
