GFI outlet not working?
Question:I have a GFI outlet that blew and the fuse in the main breaker is not popped. The little red light is not on showing it is blown, but nothing will work plugged in. The reset button won't push in and stay. Any ideas with whats wrong with it.

Could be one of three things, whatever caused it to trip is still connected and so it won't reset. The breaker to the outlet is tripped but you are not looking at the right breaker or it is tripped but it is not obvious. Must turn the breaker to off, then on. The third possibility, if you have power to the outlet box and the GFI won't reset even though nothing is connected, is that the outlet is bad and needs replacement. Keep in mind that GFI outlets frequently feed more outlets than the one with the button on it, they could be in other bathrooms, the garage, the basement, so look for other dead outlets and if you find one, disconnect everything plugged in a try resetting the GFI again.
Use any kitchen utensil to ensure that the plug is clear.
you need to replace the GFI. it should be around $12 at any hardware store. make sure you turn off the breaker...
Sometimes when they get over loaded the GFI outltes blow completely and can not be reset. Just buy a new one.
We were told about these during our home inspection when buying our house. Apparently GFI outlets are sometimes interconnected with others in the house... we were told if this were to happen in our washroom and the reset did not work, to go to the other washroom and reset that GFI outlet also. If this isn't the case, it doesn't cost too much to buy a new one.
If the reset button will not stay in..it is defective..replace it
