Too much chlorine?
Question:I work in a hotel, and our pool just opened 3 days ago. When you walk into the room there is an overwhelming smell of chlorine, so we're pretty sure there's way too much in there. We aren't able to get anyone out to look at it until Monday, so is it safe for our guests to use it in the meantime?
Answers:
The chlorine smell may be coming from a high level of what's known as combined chlorine. (It's what gives off that foul smell.) It is very irritating to swimmers and I would not recommend allowing the pool to be used until the problem is rectified. (You may face liability issues otherwise.)
There are non-chlorine shock treatments that can bring this combined chlorine level down (if that is the problem in this case), but since you are a public facility, have a professional correct the problem first.
Also, it's possible the pool area may need additional ventilation..
Maybe, but I wouldn't, It is not safe and could cause troubles with breathing, wait a while until it's near gone.
if you dont have the capability or the equipment to manage the chemical levels, then no I would close it. Liability.
A public pool is to be checked for proper chemical content 3 TIMES A DAY! You can't check it? CLOSE IT!
Whoever is servicing the pool doesnt know what he is doing.
The PH is off. http://appliancequickfix.com/ has an excellent page on pool water maintenance. Its very easy when you know what you are doing.
