Rooftop AC unit "carrier", kepps throwing reset switch off?

Question:When i reset the switch the compressor starts as well the fan starts. it will run for 5min then throws the reset switch again.

Answers:
Sounds like a high or low pressure cut out switch.

Make sure your filters are clean, evaporator coil, and condenser coils are clean. Also check to see if the condenser fan is running.

If all those things check out you will have to call out an HVAC service tech. It could be too high of head pressure or too low of suction pressure. If you are lucky you just have a bad switch.

My best guess is that you have a bad breaker. But, why did the breaker go bad in the first place? Was it an old type, i.e., federal Pacific, Zinsco, or just an old one. Or, maybe the compressor went bad, thus drawing too much power, which would originally put too much strain on the breaker, causing it to progressively get worse, tripping more and more.
check for loose wires on main power coming in to unit. tighten all connections screwdriver, allen wrench, etc. ho! turn power off to unit first at main. check main breaker from panel to unit tighten wire(s) at bkr.no loose connections compressor is going bad. call for service.
Wich reset are you having to fix? If your taking about your breaker, the more than likly you have a weak breaker. In that 5min before it trips off, does the a/c cool the air off? Or it just blow warm air in that time. If it blows cold then breaker, if warm, then some one needs to check the unit out for a possible bad compresor or motor.
How old is the unit?
Sounds like the motors are pulling too many amps for the breaker.
Better get an air conditioning tech out there to check the unit out. Weak breaker - doubt it.
