There is a whole in my bathroom?
Question:when my baby was taking a bath, he grabed the soap thing and it came off along with a chunk of tile. How do I fix this whole in the wall. (What suplies do I need to do this). Is there anything I should put in between the walls to support the soap holder thing?
Answers:
First, identify the complete problem. If moisture got behind the tile, it weekened the bond to the wall. This can be fixed by removing the old sealant where the wall meet each other and the tub. If it is ceramic tile, you can re-attach the handle with Qick-Set for ceramic tile. Drive a few nails with heads sticking out about one eigth of an inch before you apply the Quick-Set to give the bond something to hold to. Let dry 24 hours.
if there is an Ace,True Value, or Home Depot near you they will give you advice on what to do about your problem...
I think you need plaster and also you might want to call a carpenter or something to fix it and make sure you watch your baby 24-7!
If you can, separate the soap holder thingy from the tile that fell off. If the tile that fell off is OK to use again, get yourself a small tub of tile cement and after cleaning/sanding down the wall, re-glue the tile into place. Wait for the cement to dry according to the cement instructions. Get a small tub of tile grout and fill in the cracks/space around the tile. Find a soap holder thingy that has sticky pads to attach to the replaced tile. You're good to go.
it's a pretty simple thing to handle. Stores like Lowe's and Home Depot have all you need. They have free clinics that show you how to do tile work. But for something this minor, just talk to someone in the tle department. They should answer your questions.
Are you an owner or tenant? If you are a tenant, call the landlord.
If it's your house, anything can be fixed and depending what problem is -- the repair can be relatively inexpensive and simple or difficult and more costly. If you can find a replacement porcelain soap dish and matching tiles, and if the wall underneath is in good shape, it is simple.
If the hole shows that the wall has rotted, then you need to get a workman to fix the wall and it will cost more.
Take picture of the wall and bring that and the part that broke to a good building supply or local hardware store and ask for advice..
Go the easy way: Clean and dry both surfaces. Then use silcone caulk all over the surfaces to stick it back on. Apply tape to hold it in place while it cures over a 24 hour period.
