Two suggestions that I have personally used before:
1) Using a shaving razor, very carefully 'shave off' the 'fuzz' --but be sure you shave going with the grain as best you can. I mean, don't shave at a diagonal across the fabric. This will work great, but you have to be careful.
2) I don't know how much your cat scratched the fabric, but if it's just a little, you can actually melt away the 'fuzz.' I've done this on a crape polyester dress jacket before. I know this will sound crazy, but try it on a scrap before you think I'm too crazy:
Get one of those long-handled lighters like you use to light charcoal. It has a trigger and a long stem that the flame comes out of. Light it and very quickly move it across the fuzz. DON'T BURN THE FABRIC. It will melt the fuzz away. I've done this on polyester clothing 'strings' and frayed edges, too. It works great, but again, you have to be very careful and take your time. If the melting causes little beads to form where the fuzz melted, just shave off those little beads. Neither of these methods require you to wet the fabric, and the result will be a completely invisible repair. Oh -- THIS IS FOR POLYESTER -- NOT WOOL. TRY A SMALL INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST, to make sure you have polyester and not wool.
