How do I change the sand in a Tagelus Deluxe Pool Sand filter? How do I open the top?

I'd like to know why. The only time you need to change the sand is if you are switching from Bromine/Baquacil to chlorine, if you are getting sand leakage from the filter through to the pool, or if it's VERY old.
You normally never have to change the sand in the filter until it starts to wear down to sizes small enough to allow it to pass through the laterals or the above applies.
However, if you insist on changing the sand then you will need a wet/dry shop vac to remove the sand, be careful that you don't push down on the sand bed too hard or you will risk breaking the laterals that are buried inside there.
Once you get the sand out (you don't have to get every last grain out) then fill the tank half way (or at least 3 inches over the laterals) and pour in the sand. This will help the sand settle around the laterals without placing pressure on them and breaking them.
*EDIT*
Make sure you use the Baquacil stripping solution prior to changing the sand, this will get rid of the sludge build up you have in the plumbing and will make getting the sand out much easier. And yes, with a Baquacil pool it's recommended to change the sand every 3-4 years so you are making the right choice.
The Tagelus Deluxe should have a clamp that needs to be removed on the underside of the valve. Loosen it, and you should be able to lift the valve off. The Tagelus filter (no deluxe) has a threaded valve that you use a special wrench to unscrew the whole valve off the top of the tank.

what i used to do was hook the water hose to the pump hose and run water thru it backward it will wash out what in side like bugs and grass dont blast it just turn it on let in run thru remember to remove both sides of the pump hoses...
you can buy bags of sand to replace what runs out should be a line just pour it in they way you fill it... thru the top hose you have to take that off not hard
