My air conditioner is cold but freezes up after its on for a couple and gets warm. Anyone know why? Thanks?

Question:This is a room size ac

Answers:
It IS low on freon. If you keep running it, you will lose the compressor and have to replace the unit. It will be cheaper, probably, to replace the whole unit for a room sized air conditioner, than to hire someone to find a replacement compressor and pay the labor on his work. GET IT CHECKED QUICK! Charging a unit with freon is relatively simple -- or just count on replacing it altogether pretty soon.

My husband does A/C work and he says it sounds like its low on freon. He has been doing heating and air for 5 years
it may need to be cleaned on the inside,or it may be low on freon, or the thermostat may be sticking.
There may be a freon leak. A repair man will be able to test this. If it is a window unit it may be cheaper to buy a new one. If it is an outdoor system it may alos leak around the coils. Some repairmen will try to talk you into buying a new outdoor unit which can be very expensive. Look to the leaks first and then determine if you need a new system later.
filter could be plugged up or your low on freon
short on gas-at this point the damage is already done-go get a new one before prices go sky-high
maybe it need to be check by a professional
