How does the charging system on a small engine work?

Question:Where does the voltage come from to recharge the battery on a riding mower?

Answers:
It comes from a magneto, usually built into the flywheel.
The spinning magnets generate enough to keep it charged,
but not enough that you can start adding fog lights or a 2,000 watt stereo amp, sorry.
