How can I quickly clean my swimming pool water?
Question:My water is green, I have shockked it 3 times over the course of 2 weeks. It clears up a little, but when I vacuum it, it gets worse.
Answers:
You need to know exactly what your chemicals are in the water. I suggest taking a sample down to your local pool store and have them test for the following
Combined chlorine
Free chlorine
Total chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Total dissolved solids
Cyanuric acid
Metals (copper, manganese, iron, etc)
Nitrite/Nitrates
Phosphates
Post back here with the results or feel free to email them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com Please put your gallon size of the pool and filtration system type as well as the material the pool is made of (concrete/plaster or vinyl).
With the above information we can get you worked on and your pool back to crystal clear. Also, when you are at the pool store, don't purchase anything from them at this time. Proper analysis and interpretation of your test results will determine what course of action can be taken, and usually at a far less cost than the pool store recommendations.
you may need to get a tester and see which chemical level is high/ or causing the problem - then treat the condition
If it gets worse when you vacuum you need to back wash before you vac and if it has alot of green you will need to vac slowly so you don't move it off the bottom . When the algae is killed it falls to the bottom if you move your vac faster than it can pick it up then it mixes with the water again. You will probably need to back wash several times and rinse very well before you start to vac again If you have the pump that was sold with the pool i would suggest you go to a bigger pump Your pool will stay so much more cleaner because you will be filtering more water. We changed our pump and only had to shock 1 time last year and we have 18 grand kids and half the neighborhood in our pool almost daily. The only thing we do is keep it vacuumed and keep chlorine tabs floating at all times. We used to have to shock every week. The bigger pump made the difference
