The swamp cooler has no power; we have replaced the switch and breaker.?

Question:The swamp cooler went POP when we tried to turn it on last Sunday. The breaker popped off, and we have replaced the cooler switch and the breaker switch. Still NO power. What else should we check?

Answers:
There could be a breaker in the cooler itself. Or when water and power mix, power always loses. You may have a short somewhere insdie the cooler. Make sure you have power off when checking for a short. Look for bare wire/wires or burnt ones or cracked ones that are touching something they shouldn't.

Start at the home load center and verify that you have power out from the panel breaker with a reliable Volt Meter. Next verify that you have power at the service disconnect at the unit. From there check to see if you have power at the unit power switch. Are there any fuses in the unit itself? If you don't understand this, or are not sure you can do this safely, contact a reputable repair company. A $120 home visit is much cheaper than a $10,000/day hospital stay.
