Answers:
If your water heater has a shut off - Turn off the heaters water supply. This way you'll still have a toilet and cold water in the sink - Inthe morning I guess you'll be at Home Depot - Good Luck

now that you screwed up the threads on the valve you are going to have to replace it as for turning off the water I guess you will have to shut the main off good luck
why take a shower in the middle of the night? you only have one set of pliers?.. I suggest tomorrow you go out and buy like 4... Im guessing you have a walmart nearby.. why not go there? Theyre open 24/7...
You have to turn off the main water line ... Good luck
vise grips would grab better than pliers, guessing you dont have those, can you "cut a slot in the end of stub and turn i with a screw driver? (cut it with a hack saw)
or drill a hole in it and stick some thing in the hole to act as a handle (screwdriver, nail)
Go out to the front of your house and close the main key, wich controls all the water in the system of your house. Once you get the problem fixed in the shower, (this may happen until tomorrow) you can open again the key.

Good luck and don't forget to inform to the people of your house about the situation, because they may go to the bathroom and flush the wc or something like that
Turn off the main water then get help in the am. Should be something coming into your house that you can shut off. Ours is outside our side garage door. Hope this helps.
Shut the main off in the bathroom if you don't have one specifically to the shower then shut the main off to the house. You can turn it on when you need to flush the toilet or get water but the shower will keep running so you will need to shut it off again til you get it repaired. If you have a basement the shutoff should be located in the basement.
For now turn off the valve at your water heater. This will cut off your hot side to the home. It should get you through the night. If worse comes to worse. cut off the main cutoff to the home. Then call a plumber tomorrow.
If you are not flooding you may not need to turn off the mains water just let it run down the drain. You can change the valve stem yourself if you are competant you will definetly need to turn off the mains if you attempt this. Any hardware store will carry replacement valve stems . If you can afford a plumber get one if not ask a friend who would be familiar with this procedure. There are different valve stems it helps to have the old stem with you.Ps lose the pliers trouble in the making
1 Turn the water off at its sorce like the water heater or the water meter.
2 use vise grips if you cant turn off the water sorce.
3 Make sure tomarrow that you call a pro in to fix it
