Anyone have any experience with a tub liner?

Question:I'm trying to decide which is the best way to go, a new tub or a tub liner. Thanks for your input.

Answers:
Well we did a liner! It was a mess! It started to leak and was a night mare to keep clean! I think I would go with a new tub! If you have a really good person to install the liner maybe it would be OK! Make sure the Caulking dries for days before you use it! If it ever cracks or comes loose fix it ASAP! Water damage costs us a small fortune! BEST WISHES! (oh, we just put in a full size wall shower!) Works great! I do miss the tub!

Contact Rebath. They will install a new liner and finish it out in just over a day. Excellent work.

You can also see if there is a porcelain repair person in your area that would totally re-finish your existing tub, if it is steel. (this is a messy process that will require you to stay in a motel for a couple of days)
I've seen some really nice liners but I would prefer a new tub. If your bathroom is in really good shape and you like it a lot I'd tell you to go with the liner as long as the install a NEW waste and overflow (that would be the drain piping behind and under the tub); do not let anyone tell you the old one is OK, if they don't do it when the liner is done you'll have to do it later. If you aren't really into your bathroom and wouldn't mind remodeling it get the new tub but buy a good tub or you will be sorry in the future.
If you plan to sell your house as most of us do, someday anyhow. A liner cheapens the house and shows you have a junky tub underneath it.

I had an experience in a lake house that had a tub and shower liner and it devalued the house upon sale and was mentioned more times by prospective buyers than almost any other defect in the property.

Dont put in a liner. Even if you need to do the installation yourself, and you can for the cost of a liner, do it, because a liner is plain less attractive and shows you got a junker behind it.
