Why does my CENTRAL AIR smell like BOILED EGGS???
Question:I just moved into this house and I noticed that it sometimes blows air that smells like boiled eggs...not very appealing. What could be causing this?
Answers:
It could be where that last Easter Egg you never found was hidden. Seriously, check the filter and the condensate pan underneath the coil if you can get to it to make sure nothing is dead or growing in them.
Often that smell is the insulation that is built into the flexible lines that the warm air travels through from the furnace to the registers. In new construction, you will notice that smell the first couple of times you run the furnace. If your house is not new, you might have a tear in the line somewhere. Of course, it may just be a dead rodent.
I would call someone out to look at it. That is not normal and perhaps something is in the vent system that is causing the smell. Like something died up there maybe? Either way I would have it looked at right away.
Maybe it's not been lived in for a long time or the air filters are old and dirty that needs to be changed.
