Can anyone tell me how I can refinish or paint a fiberglass bathtub?
Question:My husband and I are fixing up a house to sell, and the tub is yellow all around the drain and faucet. I tried CLR, but it is taking off the paint. What else can I do. Can I refinish or repaint the tub?
Answers:
you don't paint fiberglass...you replace it.
Fiberglass is actually a plastic and if you try to paint plastic it will just bubble or pull off...
CLR is not taking off paint, it's eating the finish off the tub.

There is a process for refinishing fiberglass tubs but unfortunately it isn't available in many area's yet. It uses a spray resin and must be done by a professional in tub refinishing.Contact a local plumber and ask if he has heard of the process and can refer you to a refinisher.
There is a cleaner I get at Ace Hardware, that is for cleaning fiberglass. I'm sorry but I'm all out, at this present moment. Being on well water, my poor dishwasher would be come yellow. I would go to a "good" hardware store and explain your problem, I'm sure they should beable to help.
There are refinishing kits available, but be aware that they are time consuming and labor intensive.
Scan around on the internet under 'fiberglass bathtub refinishing", and you will get more hits than you can count.
I use borax, found in the laundry section, to clean the fiberglass tub. Just fill the tub with hot water, dump in some borax and wait until the water is cool enough for you to remove the plug. Then take an old dish towel or wash cloth and rub it all over. It removes most of the soap scum. You may need to do it twice.
Ace hardware sell a product called Zud which works very well too. Follow the directions carefully or you may etch the tub
