Attention all plumbers?
Question:i just moved into an apt.and the water pressure is extremely low.is there anything i can do about it?
Answers:
Listen to Lee, the aerators are probably clogged with debris. Just remove them, and clean them, or replace them. Good luck!
Why bother? Call the bldg owner/sup and let them fix it.
You could take the aerators out of the faucets and see if they are clogged at all. Thats about it. More likely the pressure in the pipes is not high enough to supply all the apartments with high pressure. At certain times you will have higher pressure if less people are using water.
If you are in one of those really cool old apartments that were built in the 40's or earlier it is possible that the pipes have narrowed due to calcium build-up. Not much you or your landlord can do about it except replace all the plumbing...tearing up the plaster walls and raising the rent a lot. But for the shower you can get a pressure enhancing shower head.
Your apartment complex is controlled by a water regulator.Inform your landlord about this problem. The regulator is adjustable and should be turned up a little bit.The landlord may not even be aware of such a devise so inform him that the regulator needs adjustment.Cleaning the ariators on each fixture will help also. This is the screen and the components inside the faucets. They become jammed with hot and cold water deposits.
