How do you unclog a paint sprayer?
Question:
Answers:
flush it with hot water and soap and blow through it
take it apart and soak parts in acetone
hot water and dish soap...if not paint thinner
use some good old fashioned paint thiner
Vague question, where is the clog?
Laquer thinner or brush cleaner will break up most old paints.
btw-paint thinner will do nothing if it is latex paint.
needle...
water (if using water based paint)
linseed oil (if using oil based paint)
soak the nozzle in vinegar, it will eat the paint right out of it.
They sell stuff that will soften latex or oil based paints. you have to use a small needle to dig it out.
Soak the tip in mineral spirits. Spray mineral spirits out of hose after each use, unless you are using water base paint, and then use water to spray out until all paint is gone.
soak it in HOT water
I've used a paperclip or other small item. Honestly, the best thing to do is find another can and "steal" the nozzle. Always clean your nozzle after you finish painting. Turn the can upside down and spray until clear, this will help keep down on clogged nozzles.
Now you need a paint remover, you need Zylol or Methylene Chloride, those are solvents for cured paints either oil based or latex. You can purchase those at Lowes or Home Depot.
Next, leave the sprayer in tact. Put some Methylene chloride into the spray and attempt to spray at 75 psi or so. If it will even spray a bit it will clean out itself.
If it will not spray, remove the exterior nozzle and the internal paint feed nozzle and soak those in that methylene chloride, that will unplug the nozzles.
If this is an external mix gun, you have completely cleaned about all that there is to clean here. If its internal mix gun, you need to dismantle the the paint feed nozzle and soak that in Methylene Chloride too and clean out that feed line.
Careful with the Zylol, that's very flamable, and Methylene Chloride isn't but it is very volatile so done put these in any glass jars for storage as they will blow up upon heat.
