What is the best product to use to get oily smoke damage from walls?
Question:My husband was heating up some oil and it caught fire. My walls ceiling and floors are black. What can I use to get it clean?
Answers:
The best thing to clean smoke odor from walls and doors and windows and ceilings is the following mix.
Mix in two gallons of water, One quart of odor free Kerosene, and 1/2 cup of dish washing liquid. Take a sponge and wash down the walls with this and then rinse again with clear water.
The odorless Kerosene is used in lamps.
The odor will be gone. By the way this does not damage latex or oil paints or varnish or ceilings that have been painted.
Dawn soap is as good as anything and cheaper than most. Just don't expect once over to do it. Oh, make hubby do it! Tell him he is so big and strong that he is the man for the job!
clorax clean up,with a mister clean eraser (lots of them)
there is a product called greased lighting spray it on then wash it with some dawn and water
ace hardware sells what they call a dry sponge the cleaning industry (manly fire and water Restoration) call it a chem sponge it is made specifically for smoke damage they cost about $ 5.00
I guess you could also try TSP, or Tri-Sodium Phosphate. It is an all purpose cleaner, you just mix it into water and apply with a sponge. Buy it an the home improvement store.
If there's no damage, use tsp cleaner and like 4 coats of primer...LOL...maybe 2...and repaint. If there's damage, then redo the section of wall.
Try rags and vinegar water.thats how I clean my walls all the time.Just wipe and go...
