How do you purge the gas line on a brand new ge smart water heater?
Question:I just bought a new ge smart water heater - manufactured in 4/07. Everything is set up but I think there is air in the gas line. Does anyone know how to force the gas through to the pilot?
Answers:
You could loosen a fitting and purge it quickly, but the safe way is to continue holding the pilot lighting knob down until you get gas through the valve.
You don't want to force a gas appliance, you could damage the valve and cause a safety issue. BOOM! Go over the start-up instructions again, if nothing changes. get help.
Definitely call product support or a local service dealer for advice.BOOM would totally ruin your day!
the ammount of air should be minimal. Follow the lighting directions that are probably on the heater itself or in the owners manual. It may take a few minutes to purge out whatever air was/is in the line. The pilot uses very little gas, you may or may not be able to hear it hissing when you press the button down to light it. If the heater has a piezo lighter built into it, just keep trying to light it for about a minute at a time. If it won't light after 10 minutes, there's probably another problem.
If it is so smart it should purge itself.
