Go to the county jail and take a convicted burglar to your house for lunch. Call it work release.

Small flat screwdrive will work in the hole on the outside of the handle.
get a hammer a flat screw dryver and take off pins off by hitting pins head up ,located where door hold...good luck
Sound like a problem, and I can't imagine why the door is locked from the inside with no one inside to unlock it for you. If the hinges are on your side, take the pins out and pull the door down. If not, then maybe you can unscrew the handle, but the screws are usually on the inside of the locked room. If you are all out of options, take a pipe wrench to the handle. It'll break, and you can replace it from there.
Bedroom doors don't have a "dead latch" which means if you can work a piece of thin, flexible plastic into the crack above the latch, angle it down and away from you and draw it toward you in a sawing motion, it will retract the bolt. The plastic has to thick enough to work around the edge of the door and actually stick into the room somewhat to catch on the latch. A credit card will not work unless there is a large gap and a loose fitting door. Try a chunk of plastic milk carton, margarine container or such.
pick the lock-use a small screwdriver to keep light tension on the lock tumbler in the direction that it normally unlocks. Use a thinner screwdriver and sink it all the way back to the back of the tumbler. Move the pins up one by one until the tumbler moves and unocks the door.

Once it's open, replace it with a closet style door handle.
If it's a bedroom door, they are pretty thin and if you take a pipe wrench to the knob be prepared to buy a new door! It will break before the knob will. As a retired Master Locksmith we handle this situation on a daily basis. It's not nearly as expensive as a new interior door and labor to install.
My advise, call the locksmith first before any damage is done!
Go through the window.
Try to take the whole door knob off. I managed to get into a bathroom with no window by doing this. Most door hinges are on the inside of a room. If this doesn't work you will need to call a locksmith. This will cost less than wrecking your door and having to replacing it. If you try going through the window, don't do it if the window is locked. That will cost if you break the lock on the window.
