Stagnant water in Jug tastes moldy when ran through water cooler. How does one de mold the insides?
Question:Can the Water Jug be saved as well?
Answers:
Take the jug off the cooler, unplug the cooler. Empty the jug and the cooler. Mix a cup or two of bleach with water to fill jug.
Mix more bleach water and pour into top of cooler where jug normally sits. Spray or wipe down the neck and outsides of jug with a bleach solution.
Let the bleach solution have a contact time of 20-30 minutes to kill bacteria and mold. Empty jug, rinse well several times.
Run bleach water in cooler out through spigot to help sanitize it also. Refill cooler and run through spigot several times to wash away bleach water.
Let both the cooler and the jug air dry before using, keeping them both in a clean envoirment.
Once dry, you can put both back into operation.
If refilling the jug yourself, you can spray the faucet that you obtain the water from with a bleach solution to kill bacteria on it. If the faucet allows bacteria to get into the water you put in jug, it can slowly grow and give the water a dank or stale taste.
The bleach water fumes can be obnoxious to others so proceed with diligence in reference to coworkers.
Bleach water mix can also discolor clothing so use with caution and keep out of the eyes. Wear glasses if possible to avoid eye injury.
