Replacing window seals?

Question:The bottom of my windows on the outside of my house is rotten. How can I relace the wood or can I with out takeing out the whole window.

Answers:
This is called your window sill. First you need to find out how rotten it is. If its totally gone you should remove the window and replace the whole sill.

You can replace just the sill extension if that's where most of the rot is located.

1. Buy a sill extension from the lumber yard (they may have PVC that will never rot)
2.Use a saw (saws all) to remove the sill extension (the part that sticks out beyond the house) There is usually a nice line there to use as a guide. You may also need to cut some nails that go through the sill into the brick mold at each side of the window.
3. Clean out any rot that remains and fill it with an epoxy product called "LiquidWood", or similar
4. Attach the new sill extension with long screws and glue.
5. Remove any damaged paint, apply a coat of primer, and a shinny new coat of paint.

Not like new, but close for a lot less
