How do I make a storm drain smell better?
Question:The City hasn't done a thing to help. They say that since there's no standing water in the drain it isn't blocked so it isn't a problem, how can that be?
Sometimes it truely smells so bad stepping outside is like walking into a dead animal zone. Other times it has a sulfer smell.

A CHEAP SOLUTION TO A SMELLY DRAIN OF ANY KIND IS BAKING SODA . THE SMELL IS NOT NECESSARILY STANDING WATER, BUT GASES THAT ARE BACKING UP FROM FARTHER DOWN THE LINE . WHEN YOU THINK THAT RAIN IS IMMINENT , THEN DUMP AN ENTIRE BOX OF THE BAKING SODA DOWN THE DRAIN AND LET THE RAIN DO THE REST. DO THIS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK IN THE RAINY SEASON . IF YOU ARE IN A DRY AREA, DUMP THE BAKING SODA DOWN THE DRAIN AND FOLLOW WITH ABOUT A GALLON OF WATER .LET SIT OVERNIGHT AND FOLLOW WITH ABOUT 5 GALLON THE NEXT DAY
Sounds like maybe a methane problem, which could be dangerous if the levels are too high- methane is explosive. Maybe you should call the city when the problem is there and see if they will come out to witness it first hand.
your storm drain is probably tied into the sanitary sewer which would cause the foul odor. You should contact the city and have them send a camera down the pipe to ascertain if in fact that may be the problem if it is then they need to install a water seal in the basin to keep the odors from escaping through the storm structure.
actually u are closer to the truth than u may realize. probably is a dead animal in there. start with a gallon of bleach and see if it helps. if it does, do another gallon , etc. good luck.
