How much should it cost to replace two A/C units - a 5-ton and a 1-ton?

Question:We have a 2300 sq/ft single-ftory home in the desert Southwest. The A/C units were installed when the house was built 10 years ago and are starting to show their age. My wife and I would like to replace them, but are not sure what sort of price range we should expect to see when we start looking around.

We are replacing the condensor units only (outside). The air handlers and furnace are inside and can/will be handled at a later time.

Thanks for you time in advance.

Answers:
I work for a heating and a/c contractor in CA and I also would say to get 2-3 proposals. Don't go with the big companies since they usually sub-contract out and it is always good to support the "little guy" anyway. Make sure it is someone that take the time and does load calculations on your home as far as square footage and sells you a system that is going to work for your home.

Wish I was there I am a retired a/c contractor and I would help you out...but seeing as how I am not I would guess and believe me without seeing the location its a guess around 5 grand...good luck to you if I can help please feel free to instant msg me...tvtop_toptv@yahoo.com
