Heat pump system are a good way to go if; your furnace is quite old and needs updates, electricity is less expensive than gas in your area. If you live in moderate temps( although, they work in northern climates as well) and you want an efficient heat/ cool system. And you will need at least a 3 to 3.5 ton. unit to handle that load. ( 2 ton is way under sized) To know the exact unit needed, a heat/ cool survey can be done as part of free estimate.
i cant give you a brand but i do believe that there is a tax credit of 500 bucks if you install certain high efficiency units. might want to check it out if you do so. good luck.
you need a 2-ton a/c.
i would go with something that is at least 3.5 ton and 14 SEER or higher. If you have a good furnace, forget the hat pump. Get a Goodman or a Coleman split system and have it installed by a reputable A/C company. The higher SEER rating would give you the tax credit as mentioned earlier and the price is lower than its major brand counterparts. Do it early because come the end of the month-A/C season is gonna be in full swing and you may be charged more.
Call 3 HVAC companies and have them properly size the house and determine what size & type of system is recommended.
You cannot use square footage only to make that decision.
And the guy that said use a 2 Ton is totally wrong.
Consider companies that carry the following good products: Ameerican Standard, Trane, Carrier, Ruud.
Stay away from Goodman products and bottom line products.
