When using a dehumidifier, do you close all windows in your house?
Question:My friends apartment had a really bad leak and everything is soaked. So she took the big items outside (its 86 degress and very windy). And inside there are fans going, and a dehumidifier. Does a dehumidifier work best if all the windows and doors are shut, or would it dry faster if you opened up the windows?
Answers:
Works best with windows closed - but having windows open and fans on will help the best at first - then close windows run dehumidifier and run fans.
Close the windows...
Your dehumidifier isn't doing any good with the windows open. Its just wasting electricity. The free movement of air will win that battle.
Now, if it is dry outside, just leaving your windows open and running a fan will do better then the dehumidifier could anyways.
You need to look at the weather report. I'd say if the humidity outside is 60% or less, you'll do better with the windows open. If it is damp outside, close up and run the dehumidifier.
Yes anytime you want to control the humidity in an area you must close it off completely to have it be effective. Hope it helps.
It depends on your weather conditions. If you have low humidity. Like if you live int he desert or something then keep the windows open.
If you have higher humidity the definately CLOSE the windwos. The de-humidifyer works by sucking moisture out of the air. if the windows are open in humid weather then all the humidifyer is doing in practical terms is burning electricty and costing you money.
yes
The dehumidifier works when all windows are closed. It can't get the humidity of the world out.the fans are her best bet now til it all dries up.The humidifier can go all nite long when she closes up the house.
Shut the windows.
