Why does my shower drain have an odor?

Question:I noticed that my shower drain have an unpleasant odor while the shower is running. I poured bleach down the drain to get rid of the smell. It worked for about a week. What other solutions can I use to eliminate this smell?

Answers:
it sound's like you don't have a trap in your shower drain, so what is called sewer gas is comeing up through the drain.

I would try calling a plumber or baking soda might work. It probably smells bad because of all the products that go down it.
I had this same problem once. I poured bleach, drain-o, and even baking soda down the drain. Come to find out it was hair clogging the drain and while the soap and shampoo run down the drain it got caught in the hair that was clogging the drain and it caused the unpleasant odor. I just got a flash light and some bobby pins and cleaned the hair out. It was gross and the smell worsened while I was cleaning it. But afterwards it was all better. I have since realized that when I shampoo my hair to not let the loose hair that comes out fall down the drain, I just open the curtain and toss it in the trash. I shed a lot of hair..lol...I hope this helps.
CHECK YOUR SEWAGE/SEPTIC TANK. THEY COULD BE FULL OR CLOGGED. TRY ONE CAPSULE OF YEAST IT WILL DISSIPATE THE SMELL WITHIN A WEEK. ALSO CHECK YOUR PIPES FOR EXCESSIVE LEAD.
Your shower drain is a direct line to the main drain pipes in your house. Any partial clog in the lines anywhere is going to cause odor to come up the pipes.
As silly as this may sound...you might want to go smell the sink drains also to determain if it is a shower problem or an all over problem that might require a plumber.
dump some baking soda down the drain, and then pour vinegar down. It will help break up the slime that's probably lining the drain pipe.

Afterwards, pour a couple of gallons of very hot water directly down the drain pipe. Pour it fast so that it clears out whatever water is standing in the trap.
I also had this problem at one time. I tried the baking soda and every drano and liquid plummer I could find and nothing helped. It turned out the sewer was plugged underneath the city street in fromt of my house. If the before mentiond baking soda and other suggestions don't work you may want to call the city so they can check the sewer.
In some circumstances, souls are confused when it comes time for them to join the spinning embrace of the other souls, and they become trapped in areas which do not allow escape. Perhaps this may be the answer to your query.and if not it does not matter, as all thought is valid, and all relevant to the whole. Thanks in advance for any ideas you have about my thoughts. Enjoy!
