Is fiber cement siding easier to apply than vinyl over the existing masonite siding?

Question:

Answers:
The fiber material is intended to be used on the lower three feet of the sides where water has a tendency to splash, causing a breakdown of the existing siding, (rot and mold). Applying it over the top of existing Masonite is in part counter-productive since this is the material that usually breaks down. I would follow the mfg. recommendations. If you are going to do it anyway, then you will have to use longer nails and you need to pay close attention to the material you are covering, it should be solid enough to support the increased weight.

First, check to see that your masonite is not rotting within a couple feet of the ground. there have been many claims against the company for that reason.
Ideally, siding of any types is easier to install on a flat surface.
The cement siding should be nailed tight against its substrate, which will be a problem if your masonite is a lap style. Vinyl siding is designed to hang. So with a some longer siding nails, the vinyl will be adjustable to the depth of the existing masonite.
