My central air conditioner "auto" doesn't work?

Question:I want my central air to cut on and off. But, for some odd reason Auto button just keeps it running. Do I need to replace my central air unit or what? I know my energy bill will now go up. What should I do? Someone told me eventually my central air unit will go out on me if I don't replace it. Is that true? I bought a mobile home years ago and the mobile home owner put an used one in. Now, the central air unit is making a squeaky noise when running. What should i do?

Answers:
sounds like someone wired your t stat wrong or it has shorted out between wires all yo have to do is remove the wire that is on the y terminal on your t stat, if it shuts off then its either bad or shorted if its still keeps running then it is in the condenser section have it checked

well you better get it fix's or your bill will go up
Check the temp and see if its to high or low.
Call someone to take a look at it. could nned a new one.
As high1315 said, mis-wiring. That is the first thing that came to mind as I read your question. The second thing was stuck points in the fan relay.
I agree with Raymond, sounds like a bad stat, or it's miswired.

I agree with you a lot lately, Raymond.
