Bathtub faucet won't stop running.?

Question:The cold tap on the faucet has a small steady stream. We have well water and are afraid it will run out if this keeps up. Any tips to avoid calling an $$ plumber?

Answers:
Turn off the faucet and the main water supply, remove the cold water handle. Check the washer to see if it's worn down. Replace if necessary and then check the seat (the metal part that meets the rubber washer.) Put your finger in there, feel to see if there are any barbs or sharp edges that could wear down your washer faster. If so then you can get a seat resurfacing tool and smooth that out again before reinstalling the stem and handle.
(I hope that made sense.. It did in my head)

there are two things you can do 1-check the o ring 2-replace the faucet.
shut off the main water to the house. Take the faucet apart and take the guts to home depot and talk to the plumbing guy. Sounds like you have a bad gasket thingy.

The guy at home depot will know what to do.
Go to the local hardware store and get yourself a faucet repair kit. Turn off the water pump or close the shut-off valve to the cold water, if its accessible. Using a Phillips tipped screwdriver, remove the screws from the handle (if you don't see any screws, there should be a "C" or the word "Cold" or some such thing to indicate that it's the cold water valve. If this is the case, you can use a small flat-head screwdriver to remove this center of the handle, since this is only a cap).
Then remove the screw. After this, pull the handle straight off. You may need to jiggle it a little.Using a 12" crescent wrench, unscrew the valve.
After this, turn the valve over. You should see a screw with a seal beneath it. Remove the screw and replace the seal with a new one from the kit. Replace the screw.
Look about half way up the valve. If there is an O-ring, replace it by using a small flat tipped screwdriver to pull it out of the groove and then rolling it off of the valve. Find a like sized ring from the kit, and roll it back into the groove. Lubricate the new seal and ring with silicone lubricant.
Reinstall by reversing the removal process.
This may not work for every faucet. If you remove the handle and it doesn't look like I've described, go no further!
Go back to the hardware store with the brand name of your faucet and get their advice.
Good luck.
replace the rubber seal. pennies!!
