What happens to my A/C when it rains?

Question:The water gets inside the A/C through the vents because it sticks out the window. Should I unplug it when not using it? Is it going to blow up because of the water and electricity? I live on the 10th floor so I can't climb up and cover it every time it rains.

Answers:
It's made to take the weather.

Nothing to worry about - if it is installed properly (angled back slightly towards the ouside), the drain at the back of the air conditioner will make sure no water gets anywhere it's not supposed to be!
No you're ok. The electrical components are weatherproofed so it can be exposed to the elements. That's why it hangs outside. The water getting inside may actually help clean out any drain slot-clogging sludge that may be in te drip pan. Most window units are designed with a built in pitch so i would advise against installing it off-kilter. Too many units have fallen out because of that reason and i caused a class-action suit. The result was the change in A/C design.

So let it rain
Honey, stop worrying about nothing. One Paris Hilton is enough.
Think about the war in Iraq instead. Do something positive, send money to the USO.
