Lawnmower Smokes, Need Help!??
Question:Last time after I used my lawnmower, I noticed it strted to smoke from the exhaust. I checked the oil and it was bone dry. Therefore I refilled the oil and started it back up, but it smoked even more even after I had it idle for about 2 minutes? What is my lawnmowers problem and how can I fix it fast?
Answers:
2 much oil in it
hi
sound like your compression ring overheated and sized up
you need to replace the rings.
hope nothing else melted
No fast fix. Motor problem. You had no oil. You probably toasted it.(scored cylinder walls, cracked rings, burnt valves, muffler bearings seized, yada yada.
sorry but the only "fast fix" is going to be to buy a new mower..otherwise..get out the wrenches. :-(
Make sure every time you use the mower or any thing that has oil in it check it and make sure it full, First change the plug, air filter clean carb, with carb, cleaner let set for about 5 min, Then crank If still smokes it might clear up if not we have more problems, good luck
The air filter could need to be changed or the rings in the engine may be bad which means it will need an overhaul. Another possibility is that you had it tipped over to one side which let the oil run into the cylinder wall in which case it will burn out and be ok after you run it for a while.
If you were running it with no oil, there is probably some serious internal damage. Adding oil after the fact will not help. If it is an inexpensive mower, replace the engine, it will be more cost-efficient than trying to get the old one repaired. If it is a more expensive mower it may be more cost-efficient to get the engine overhauled. Consult a qualified and honest technician in that case.
