Sounds like you have a ghost. No just playin', maybe you need a new filter or something.
It could be over heating. my neighbors caught on fire and caused a lot of damage. You would be wise to have it checked out by an electrican. Better safe than sorry, that's what grandma used to say lol.
Some high dollar fans have thermal protection and may shut themselves off due to heat buildup. In the case of the standard exhaust fans, this can be a serious problem, if ignored. Faulty fan motors can create heat. Have this checked very soon!
Agreed it sounds like it is overheating.
If you have a blowdryer with a trip circuit on it, think of it as the same principal. When it overheats it shuts off. When it cools down enough it will operate again.
If there wasn't the trip in there, since the fan is hardwired, it would overheat and eventually cause a fire. Stop using the fan and have it checked out before you use it again. Either that or make sure your homeowners or renters ins is paid up. And pretend like you didn't know there was something wrong because they may opt out on paying for neglect of an item you knew was faulty but continued to use.
Yes, that has happened.
Overheating is probably the culprit,if you can pull the cover off check to see if all it is,is lint buildup that is causing the problem.on the other hand it could be that some insulation in you attic has fallen down around the unit causing it to heat up because it can't breath.just pull the insulation back away from it a little ways.If this fails it may be some wiring is going bad in the moter,if this is the problem, replace the unit
