How can i release the pressure in a hot what heater/tank?

Question:whater is dripping out of it i think it needs 2 drain

Answers:
With respect I tell you that the first two people are wrong! If the unit is leaking from the TP valve on top. Thats Temperature, Pressure valve then you either have a bad valve that needs to be replaced or the water temp pressure is too much to handle.

Replaced the TP valve, available at any hardware store for 10-20 dollars and you will be good to go. Take numbers off of the tag and replace it with an exact match.

yes you should have a release valve on the bottom of the tank should be about 4 in from the floor just turn it open but be care full the water will be hot and don't forget to close it back up.
the pressure relief valve is on the top of the water heater... the valve about 4" from the floor is the drain... your hot water heater will only leak water if there is a leak.. not if it is too full.. if you think it is too full and you drain some water out guess what. it will refill as soon as you close the valve back..if its a leak on the outside as in plumbing you can see then you can prolly replace just the pipe... if its a leak coming out of the tank then sounds like you need a new water heater..
The appliance guy told you the correct answer. And if the new one leaks you have a problem with the thermostat.
