What to do when the water is turned off?
Question:My apartment building has scheduled repairs on the water tower on the building. During the hours of 9 am to 5 pm there will be no water. If I stock-pile water before 9 am that day, can I get the toilet to flush? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Answers:
Sure! You're asking if a large enough bucket of water will make the toilet flush normally and the answer is yes. I own a rental apartment and sometimes bring in water to flush with when the water is off. (You can also mop with the same water beforehand). A five gallon bucket is good for one or two flushes, depending on how much your toilet takes. You can either pour it directly into the bowl or else fill the tank and then flush--same result either way. Also, if you save a tankful of water from when the water is on, it will give one flush even though the water is off. Plumbing ain't rocket science.
fill up some five gallon buckets
If you want the toliet to flush remove the tank lid, fill up the water tank, and press the handle. The tank won't fill back up on its own since the water is off, so you will have to refill again.
Unless they run into a problem the water will probably be off for a much shorter period of time.
Just make sure you have all your personal needs that require water, like showering, done before 9am. I might even suggest you have it done before 8am.
If you pour a 5 gallon bucket in a toilt, it'll flush. Pour it quickly.
The toilet will flush only once after the water is shut off. You can refill the tank after that for another flush. Fill several containers in preparation. Good Luck.
If you use the water from your bucket the waste will flow out through the s bend and the clean water will take its place. If you are home alone save water and flush when the water is restored. Prefill your kettle and have a container in the fridge. Have a supply for washing hands etc, and take from the supply as you need it in small amounts You will be suprised how little you use when you have to really think about it.
Fill the tub and use a bucket to flush. Duh.
stock pile your drinking water for several days as the water needs to run clean again to get the cool clear water back into the apts aft they have disturbed the soil around the pipes etc, not to mention rust ..
make it a few nites out and get some enjoyment out of the situation.
you mean to tell me you can't go eight hours without flushing your toilet. Thank your lucky stars you don't live in Mexico.
