Air conditioning?
Question:I just moved in to a small apartment. I want to know if I can turn my air conditioner sideways so that the unit would rest on it's side. the windows are to small for me to put it in any other way.
Answers:
No. You will ruin the compressor. The oil and the freon will not be pumped the way they should.
NO. You MUST install it according to the manufacturer's instruction sheet that came with your window unit.
Nope, the repositioning will affect the flow of the coolant thru the compressor, as well as affecting the lubricant that the compressor relies on for its operation.
NO!!! The oil in the compressor will drain to one side and it will burn up.
No the freon goes from a liquid to a gas in the process. See manual on installation.
NO! If your windows are not wide enough, you can purchase another one that is specially designed to fit in smaller windows, such as a casement window.
All the responders who said no are correct.
Narrow units are hard to come by. I suggest you find out if your landlord will allow a thru-the-wall mount. If not, you need to get one on wheels that uses dryer duct size hoses for the outside venting. These generally run $150 higher than a similarly sized BTU window unit. Mak sure the one you select vents the water out the hose as well, some cheaper ones have a bucket you empty.
No, but do look into getting a portable A/C unit if you can't find a window unit.
you can find one at home depot and/or lowes
