What could cause my central air to keep running almost non stop??
Question:The air that is coming out of the vents seems really cool and I only have it set on 72 but the central air seems to run with almost never turning off. Todays temps were not that hot but the thermostat is still right at 72 degrees.
Answers:
A few things will cause this..
1st. Make sure the T-stat is in auto instead of On.
2nd. A dirty air filter will restrict airflow and not cool properly.
3rd. Low freon (R-22) levels
4th. You could have a hole on the air intake side, pulling hot air from the attic or garage.
Check the temp out of the vent closest to the inside a/c. Then check the room temp at the stat. You should have at least a 20 degree split from those locations. There are other things that will cause this. For more help, Please feel free to contact me on Yahoo.
1. it could be broken or you do not set it on auto and your fan is running. Fans run all the time unless you set them to auto. Check the settings..
after you check your setting and it is still running, check your air filter and spray your outside unit down with water. Call for help after that. Most likely you had the fan set on the ON position.
Your thermostat is shot. If your house made temperature and it still wont shut it off, then its the stat. Go get a cool new Heat/Cool stat,7 day programmable from your local home supply. Kill power to the furnace and install per instructions. It should be good now.
Do you you have it on auto? Try adjusting the temperature dial and that might do it!
You may be trying to cool down to big of an area for the size of your air conditioner
