Call the repair man. Sounds like a worn out belt perhaps, but it could be an overheating seal.
You probably have a drive belt or water pump belt slipping, empty the water out and lay the machine on a slant and have a look with a mirror or something if the belts are sloppy or slack lay the machine on its side and roll the belt off the pulley. To replace the belt, get on the phone to your nearest appliance dealer and see if he has a belt that size. You may have to measure the pulley diameters first and the shaft centre distances (How far they are apart!) before you phone. Have a good day.
has it been turned off lately? if so it could be the starter/solinoid.
be very careful as these thing will catch on fire if left.

on the back check out the black boxes which are connected to the small tanks. take the cover off and look for burning marks. the starters are about £10 pounds to buy.
cheers
Open a window and try to keep the kids away as the tires on a refrigerator can be expensive. If that does't work get an older model that only "runs" and doesn't burnout.
Unplug it and turn the switch to off.then call a repair man to see if it can be fixed.Refrigerateors have no belts people. There are rebates for new ones that are great.
