What is wrong with my Central Air. It is making a constant gurgling sound. It was off all winter, now On.?
Question:The Unit has been off for 5 months. When We turned it on for the first hot day it started sounding as though there is water bubbling over an air tube?
Answers:
Probably your condensate pump. The evaporator removes a great deal of water from the air. Does your a/c drain water to outside or to a basement drain? Anyway, find the drainline and go from there. It could be plugged.Hopefully it is still draining to the proper place.
First of all, change all of the filters, if you haven't already done so. Impeded air flow is bad news for an air conditioning system. Clean the evaporator, as well as the condenser out side as well. The cleaner 409 does a good job. The evaporator might be a bit messy if you over load the drain off channel with rinse water. Now, as for the gurgling sound, I doubt that it is water. If it is, you can kiss the compressor good bye, and be ready for very expensive repairs. The A/C system is a closed system and water getting in, barring. a leak, water in the system is pretty much impossible. The sound is most likely the liquid refrigerant (freon) moving through the system. Comparatively speaking, you have a warm house, and it will take at least 24 to 48 hours for the system to stabilize. Give it some time to see if everything settles out. While you are doing that, get to the cleaning I mentioned.
