My son flushed the splash guard to his potty seat down the toilet. The toilet flushes fine unless you?
Question:do anything involving the use of toilet paper. Then it backs up, not to the point of overflowing though thank goodness. Am I going to have to call a plumber or is there any way we can fix this ourselves. Kind of in a low money situation right now and my husband is pretty handy, but hes an electrician, doesnt know alot about plumbing. HELP

You may be able to fix this yourself. One way is to reach into the toilet and see if get hold of the shield and pull it out. Failing that, remove the water supply and the two nuts from the floor flange bolts, flush the toilet to somewhat empty the tank, and lift the toilet straight up off the bolts. Turn it over, water will come out, and see if the shield can be gotten out of the bottom of the toilet or out of the waste pipe. If not, plumber time. Put a new beeswax seal on the bottom of the toilet before lowering straight down onto the bolts.
You can probably rent a "pipe snake" from your local hardware store and feed that down the drain. This may or may not help but it would be cheaper than the plumber.
You can try a closet auger aka toilet auger. You might have some luck fishing the item out with one. I've snagged several items out with one in my years of plumbing exp. including ink pens, toothbrushes, hair brushes, and even a set of upper dentures. If you don't know anyone you can borrow one from, you could even try using a wire hanger with the end bent into a hook. Yuo may be able to fish it through the horn of the toilet and snag the intruder and pull it back out. I'd try it before pulling the stool.
HA! He called the toilet "stool"!! Anyway, he's right. But if you cant get it out then you will have to pull the toilet...good luck
